RE-EVALUATION OF EXCESSIVE
STRESS WHICH TRIGGERS
THE FIGHT OR FLIGHT RESPONSE

Custom Search

When we experience excessive workplace stress, it triggers the fight or flight response and it is not only about external circumstances alone that are causing you to feel stressed-out: in many instances, it has to do with your internal structure, chemical and emotional wellness.

When we're faced with stressful situations that require change of our behavior, the instinctive fight-or-flight reaction occurs which is an involuntary response and our respiratory rate increases, blood is shunted away from
our digestive track and directed into our muscles, limbs and metabolism which requires extra energy and fuel preparing us for conflict or escape. However, because the fight-or-flight was intended for running and fighting an enemy to protect us from bodily harm and today is often brought on by situations that require behavioral adjustments and is not used appropriately, which is most of the time, the fight or flight repeatedly brought forth may ultimately lead to other diseases.

Each of us possesses a natural protective mechanism against “overstress”, which allows us to turn off harmful bodily effects, to counter the effects of the fight-or-flight response. This response against “overstress” brings on bodily changes that decrease
heart rate, lower metabolism, decrease the rate of breathing, and bring the body back into what is probably a healthier balance. This is The Relaxation Response.

I don’t see the conditions that create the workplace stress of a claim adjuster changing anytime soon. That is up to the management team you work for but I do know that with the little bit of information I may have provided you with, you can pursue additional information on your own and also meet with your personal physician so you can make changes in your life, even if you don’t change your occupation.
