CAUSES OF WORKPLACE STRESS
FOR A CLAIM ADJUSTER

Custom Search

The causes of workplace stress for a claim adjuster do not come from our customers, it comes from not being able to provide our customers the good service they should be entitled to receive. Companies are doing a lot more with less, and their demands that are put on us, are not attainable, so the customer suffers as much as the claim adjuster.

Certain working conditions are inherently stress-inducing factors driving workplace stress such as:

• Insecure job security caused by downsizing and cutbacks

• Micro-managing

• Technology causing workplace stress such as fax machines, scanners, etc. has made expectations of wants and needs of others to expect an immediate response.

• Excessively high workloads making people feel overwhelmed

• Continuous changes adding additional duties which inevitably increase the already high workload.

• Unrealistic goals that are measured on our reviews

• Lack of clerical support

• Unrealistic job expectations which set us up to fail

• Desk not covered while finally taking a vacation

• subtle discriminations

• intimidating behaviors

• workplace bullying

• sexual harassment

• inflexible work hours

• no time for breaks

• shortened lunches

• longer working hours

A small amount of stress can be a positive motivator for some people and then other workers are negatively affected by stress. Prolonged amounts of daily stress are not normal and can cause chronic and serious stress related illness.

This list is not inclusive and I'm sure there are many more causes of workplace stress.
